Description
The gall bladder is the site of a carcinoma which is involving much of the length of the organ;
tumour can be seen projecting into the lumen at one point. The tumour has invaded the surrounding
liver and is the source of multiple metastatic deposits within the liver. There is evidence of bile
duct obstruction in the bile lakes which can be seen on the cut surface.
History
This lesion was found at autopsy in a 75-year-old woman who had been investigated for
possible malignant disease but who died before the investigations were completed. Gall stones
were present although they are not with the specimen. There were also metastases in the hilar
lymph nodes and in the right lower lobe of the lung.
